We are all made of stardust. The carbon in our cells, the oxygen we breathe, the iron in our blood—it all originated in ancient stars that exploded into supernovas billions of years ago

Armed with little more than a very thin brush and white paint, artist Sandra Cinto constructs awe-inspiring imagined landscapes that take us on a journey among these stars. While a traditional landscape would include a straight horizon line for your eye to land on, Cinto’s horizon twists and turns. Instead of placing us in a stable or recognizable place, Cinto’s abstracted drawing encourages our gaze to drift, creating the sensation that we are moving or floating high above the world.

For more than 25 years, Brazilian artist Sandra Cinto has developed mesmerizing large-scale drawings that push the limits and possibilities of her craft. Cinto’s rich vocabulary of symbols—stars, bridges, water—remind us of the massive and ever-changing nature of the universe and the power we have to come together and imagine new worlds.
